1in8b.one is an educational simulation. You are "born" somewhere in the world, drawn at random in proportion to real birth statistics, and live a life shaped by chance and your choices. By using the site you agree to these terms.

It is a model, not a prediction

• Countries, life expectancy, income, schooling and other figures come from published sources, rounded and simplified. Individual lives, people, events and outcomes are fictional and random.
• The game does not describe any real person, and it cannot tell you what your own life, health, finances or legal situation will be.
• It is not medical, financial, legal or psychological advice. For any real decision, ask a qualified professional.

Sensitive themes and age

The game includes death, illness, loss, violence, suicide and substance use, without graphic scenes. It is intended for ages 15 and up. Hard events occur at realistic rates and are not a judgement of anyone's choices. If something in the game affects you, please talk to someone you trust or contact a free helpline (findahelpline.com).

Accounts

Accounts are optional. If you create one, keep your credentials secret and tell us about any unauthorised use. You are responsible for activity under your account.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

• break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
• try to gain unauthorised access to, overload or disrupt the service;
• scrape the service at a rate that harms it, or use it to send spam or malware;
• present the game's fictional lives as real people or real data about real people.

Your content

Lines you write in the game stay on your device. If we ever add features that store or show your content, we will say so and these terms will say how it may be used.

Our content

The code, text, artwork and design of the site belong to us or our licensors. Flag images are from the MIT-licensed flag-icons project. You may share your own share cards and birth links freely for personal, non-commercial use.

Facts and help links point to third-party organisations. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.

The paid life report

After a life ends you may buy its report once: a portrait, a poem and the full account of the choices you made. It is a one-time payment, not a subscription, charged in yuan (Alipay or WeChat Pay) or, when available, in US dollars (card). The portrait and poem are made by AI from the facts of that simulated life; they are fiction, may not look like anyone real, and no two runs are identical. If we cannot produce your report, we refund the payment in full automatically. Because the report is made for you on purchase, we do not refund a report that was delivered, except where the law requires it or something is clearly wrong with it; write to us and we will make it right.

Availability and changes

The service is provided as is, and we may change, pause or end any part of it. Saved lives live in your browser and could be lost if you clear your data; we do not guarantee they are kept.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We will update the date above when these terms change, and note material changes on the site. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.
